I finally had my first session of Microneedling and I am loving it!
I wanted to try it for over a year now but it was never the right time, so now that I tried it I am super excited!
After seeing the results myself, I decided that I had to share this experience with all of you who may be interested in microneedling but you are too scared to try it.
In this post I will show you how my skin looked before Microneedling, the whole process with Dermapen and then some photos of my progress day by day for the following week.
What is Microneedling
Microneedling is a technique using multiple microscopic needles that penetrate your skin and makes little tiny wounds. This will activate your skin’s healing process so it produces collagen and elastin which makes it very useful for general skin rejuvenation as well as to target wrinkles, enlarged pores and acne scarring.
If you want more details about what microneedling, mesotherapy and dermapen is, what are the benefits of each treatment, things to do after your treatment and much more, you can check my recent post here.
Benefits of Microneedling:
Improves skin tone and texture, refines pores
Treats the appearance of scars
Helps removal of stretch marks, acne scars, wrinkles, thin lines
Helps removal of sunspots, melasma, pigmentation marks
Brightens dark circles
Why I tried Microneedling
I decided to try this treatment mostly because of the fine lines in my under eye area, but also to even out my skin tone and get this glow that everyone was talking about!
As you can see in my before and after photos, my skin was looking dull and tired.
Also my thin lines and my dark circles were much more visible.

Steps of the treatment:
Step 1 – Cleansing
First thing the practitioner will do, is to remove any make up and make sure your skin is clean.
They usually apply numbing cream prior the microneedling, especially if you have sensitive skin, but in my case we chose not to use any.
Step 2 – Serum
After cleansing my face the practitioner prepared the serum she would use with Dermapen.
Dermapen can be used on its own and its proven to be very effective. In that case, the practitioner will apply a gel so the needles won’t go directly on dry skin and to help the micropen glide easily.
However, when pairing microneedling with vitamins, hyalouronic acid or brightening serum, you will have even better results.
And this is what we did in my case. I have dark circles, fine lines and a little discoloration in some areas of my face, so we chose a brightening serum infused with vitamins that would help with all the above.
Step 3 – Microneedling with Dermapen
After applying the serum, the practitioner works with the dermapen on my face, starting from one side to the other.
My first impression was WOW! It was way better than what I expected. I really thought that I would feel the needles going into my skin and I was a bit terrified..
In areas like my cheeks and nose I didn’t feel any pain. I felt a little discomfort in areas were the bones are closer to our skin, like on top of my cheekbones, my forehead and chin. I also felt discomfort when she was working on the left side of my face and that’s because it’s the side that I usually sleep.
Step 4 – Serum
Once we were done with Dermapen, the practitioner applied a hydrating serum with vitamins once again. Your skin pores are pretty open at this point, so any product will be quickly absorbed and you will get all of their advantages.
Each treatment and skin condition is different, so the practitioner will select what serum to apply accordingly.
Step 5 – Face mask
The practitioner applied a hydrating face mask.
This part was the best, because after microneedling you will feel like your skin is sunburnt, so this mask is really soothing.
Step 6 – Moisturiser and Sunscreen
We waited a few minutes for the mask to dry and after cleaning my face once again, she applied a moisturiser and of course sunscreen.
Apart from the cleansing and the hydrating parts, the actual treatment lasted about 15 to 20 minutes.
What to expect
You will experience redness but this usually fades away within 24-48 hours.
Also, I did not feel any pain after the treatment.
The healing process in average is 2-3 days. However, most people are ready to get back to their normal activities after 24 hours.
There are a few things you have to do after microneedling and your dermatologist will advise you on that. You certainly should not touch or wash your face for the rest of the day.

And these are the day by day photos with my progress
In these photos you can see how my skin looks like, day by day for the following week.
As I mentioned before, I did microneedling because of the fine lines and my dark circles. It definitely helped with that, but I also had that glowing effect from day number 1.
You will see a small difference right after the treatment, but the actual results were even more visible after a week.
So it’s only been a week after my 1st session but I can definitely see the difference.
Today my skin texture is great, it feels fresh, hydrated and glowing.
Another great thing is that after microneedling, your skin absorbs better any skincare products you apply, so you will take the most out of them.
Overall I am very happy with the results and I will definitely do more sessions soon.
The process is really not that painful and you can go back to your normal activities or work within 24 to 48 hours.
