The best foundation is a glowing healthy skin. So let’s talk about skincare goals!

The Ordinary Skincare Products

New Year, New Resolutions and what is better than setting self-care goals, looking after your skin, body and mind? I will share my thoughts for all these goals in different articles, but today I wanted to focus on Skincare.

Skincare is a priority to me (if you are over 30 then you know what I mean!) and I really believe that if you commit to good skin care products, you really won’t need a lot of makeup.

I am 32 and the signs of aging are not doing me any favours lately, so the past few years I have been searching for products that will actually work and will give me visible results. After using several products from different brands, I finally found a brand that made a difference. And of course, I am talking about The Ordinary!

The Brand

Scrolling through The Ordinary’s website can be very overwhelming…I know! So many terms, words that you don’t even know their meaning (or spelling) and products you never heard of. Before purchasing any products you have to understand what each product does, how to use it, as well as if you can layer it with other products.

Well, fortunately, the company provides specific directions and a regimen guide online. If you still have any regimen questions or concerns, you can contact their team or check some of the many helpful customer reviews. And if you are not satisfied with your products, they also offer a 365-day return policy!

After a lot of research online and based on other people’s reviews, I purchased some products that I thought would be great for me.

1. The Ordinary – Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (6.80 USD / 30ml)

What is it?

I looove this serum, you should incorporate this serum no matter what skin type you have! Hyaluronic Acid (HA) can attract up to 1,000 times its weight in water. It makes your skin plump and offers multi-depth hydration. It will boost hydration on the surface of your skin. It is great for all skin types and you will see better results when using it regularly. It is a great choice if your skin is dehydrated, or if you need an extra boost of moisture.

How I use it

I use it right after cleansing my face in my both morning and night time skin care routines. It is water based, so you should apply before any cream or oil-based product. After your hyaluronic acid serum, you should continue with your moisturiser or your next serum.

2. The Ordinary – Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (5.90 USD / 30ml)

What is it?

This is my top top top favourite product from the ordinary so far. I am in love with this serum. Niacinamide is something I didn’t even know and after I read so many reviews I knew I had to try it.

Niacinamide is one of the two forms of vitamin B3 and plays an important role in keeping your skin firm and healthy. It has anti-inflammatory effects on the skin, and it helps to treat breakouts, blemishes and acne. It’s also amazing for oily skin as it will help regulate oil production, It minimises the appearance of enlarged pores and blackheads.

How I use it

I use it in my morning skincare routine, after my hyaluronic acid serum. It is a water based serum as well, so keep in mind that you should apply before any cream or oil-based products.

Extra Tip! If I have a blemish or a pimple, I spot treat with niacinamide and its gone in 1-2 days!

Notes: On the ordinary’s website it is stated that If you are using any vitamin C products, you should use the niacinamide at alternate times, ideally Vitamin C at night and this formula in the morning.

3. The Ordinary – Buffet (14.80 USD / 30ml)

What is it?

This serum is great for an antiaging routine. It helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, boost hydration, fade pigmentation, brighten dull skin, and will also firm and smooth your skin texture

It is a multitasking water-based serum that combines a complex of peptides and other ingredients that target multiple signs of skin ageing and improves overall skin health.

How I use it

I use the buffet serum in my night time routine (instead of the niacinamide), after my hyaluronic acid. However, the products should be applied in the order of your concern, so you can use the Buffet as your first serum and then follow with your Hyaluronic Acid. Any cream or oils should be applied after this serum.

Notes: This serum should ideally be used in your night time routine and it’s better not to use with vitamin C or direct acids.

4. The Ordinary – Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG (6.70 USD / 30ml)

What is it?

The Caffeine solution serum can help reduce looks of puffiness and of dark circles in the eye contour. EGCG is an ingredient from green tea leaves that leaves your skin rejuvenated and lifted.

In most of the reviews that I read, it seems that this serum is more effective for puffiness than it is for dark circles. I have been using it for a month 2 times a day, and I have not seen any huge difference in my dark circles so far, but I will keep using it and see how this goes. However, I love how refreshing this serum feels in my undereyes. I like to massage the area and it instantly gives me a lifted effect!

How I use it

This is a water-based product too, so you should use it before applying any cream or oil-based products. You can use it morning and night.

In my morning routine, I apply this serum after the niacinamide and in the night I apply it after the buffet.

Overall I am in love with this brand and the products I have used so far. From the 1st week using these serums, everyone noticed how glowy, healthy and firm my skin was. I have now been using them for over a month and I am excited with how my skin looks and feels! My pores are less visible, my skin looks healthy, radiant and so glowing! Even with makeup on, my skin is still glowing. I also feel that my fine lines are just a little less visible but this will take a little longer to see better results.

I will definitely keep using these products and will try to incorporate a few more from The Ordinary.

The products are amazing and the prices are so low that you can really have a complete full skincare routine under 50 USD!! What more can we ask?

All of the products I mentioned, worked great on my skin and this combination was amazing! I have not experienced any reactions or irritations so far. However we all have different skin and you can never know until you try it on.

Bonus Tips:

– Products will get foamy or white on application if you put too much of the product, or if your hands & face are wet.

– Let each product dry before using the next one.

– Don’t use more than 3 serums in each skincare routine.

– Remember to use water-based products first, then follow with creams and then oil-based products.
